This pretty cowl in two sizes (S/L) is unusual for both its texture and fabric. The stitch pattern—which resembles a popcorn stitch—requires much less fuss than you’d think. The fabric derives its soft and slinky drape from pairing two vastly different yarns—one that is thick, lush, and springy with one that is thin, slick, and silky. Two needle sizes are recommended for maximum effect, but if you find that too fiddly, use one in-between size.
Suggested Yarns:
Color A: Modern Deco Lace or any smooth, silky fingering yarn that has approximately 100 yards per ounce.
Color B: Precious Worsted, Chebris Worsted, Better Breakfast Worsted, or any soft, chunky 2-ply blend that has approximately 200 yards per 4 ounces.
Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size, drape, and yarn requirement.
Finished Size:
24(56) inches in circumference and 15(12) inches in depth (washed and blocked)
Note: size and depth are easily adjusted by adding or subtracting full pattern repeats
Yarn Requirements:
Color A: 175(375) yards
Color B: 100(200) yards
Gauge:
19 sts and 29 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on smaller needle in fingering yarn (unblocked)
7US (4.5 mm) 24-inch circular needle (or size to obtain correct gauge)
9US (5.5 mm) 24-inch circular needle (or 1 mm larger than gauge needle)
