A richly textured, buttoned cuff trims these warm winter mittens in three sizes (S/M/L). A knit/purl welted fabric pairs with an openwork panel of pretty leaves to set off the button detail. Solid stockinette protects the hands from wind and cold; fitted thumb gusset and fingertip shaping complete the mittens with tailored simplicity.

Suggested Yarns:

Stone Soup DK, Kent DK, Better Breakfast DK, Ginny DK, Targhee Tango Sport, Confection Sport, or any soft, springy DK yarn that knits to pattern gauge

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and elasticity.

Finished Size:
6(7, 8) inches around hand (washed and blocked) to fit hands measuring up to 6(7, 8 inches) around palm (excluding thumb)

Yarn requirements:
190(220, 250) yards

Buttons:
4 round buttons that are .375 inch in diameter

Gauge:
22 sts and 35 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on larger needle (washed and laid flat to dry)

Needles:

five DPNs size 4US(3.5 mm) for mitten hand (or size to obtain correct gauge)

size 3US(3.25 mm) 24-inch circular needle for cuff (or .25 mm smaller than gauge needle)
