This brightly colored scarf and hat set is a thick, lush answer to the biting winter winds. The two-color cables take on the look of a Christmas plaid and add some festive cheer to grey days. If you have any experience with cables and color work you’ll have no trouble combining them to create this striking design.
The pattern includes video tutorials and clear charts and diagrams. The scarf is quite simple. We start with the cabled front, and work our wider cable for the full length of our scarf, not bothering to catch our floats. Then we switch to our contrast color and knit the same length of that, to create a warm lining that hides all the floats. Finally we connect the loose ends with 3-needle bind off and sew them together along the sides to create a rich garment that will block out all the cold.
The hat is fun too. This time we use a narrower cable and knit a short cuff, then pick up stitches along the bottom edge to work our crown ribbing inside-out. The ribbing becomes the lining as we flip our work to the right side and fold the cabled cuff up. We sew it down and we’re done: An eye catching winter set to keep you festive and warm!
