A real quick skirt update—I am getting ready to work the final 5 or 6 inches in the laciest pattern, and I am changing to an even larger needle to do so. That means it is a good chance to take a few photos!
I like it! So far, so good. The striping is totally random; I just do it by eye—as in, “Oh, time to add a little black” or “maybe two rows of green now!”
That seems to work out alright. As you can see, I gradually opened up the zig-zag pattern by adding more yarnovers and it flares out as a function of two things: I changed needle size partway down (and now I am doing it again), and I increased within each chevron a couple of times on the way down the skirt.
The last tier, which I am about to begin, will be the most lacy—I will continue in the same vertical lines, but add even more YOs so that the zig-zag pattern becomes more like a Crest o’ the Wave pattern. I will change the striping, but I’m not exactly sure how yet. So far, letting my instinct guide me has made for a good pattern, so I’ll probably stick with that.
I really like it—I’m already halfway through the next skirt in my head!
